This whistle post design is meant for large scale (45mm gauge) model railroads. It is based on Boston & Maine's Standard Plans (circa 1951) and is an exact model of posts still found around Massachusetts.
There is a hole in the bottom of the model in which I use 1.5mm brass rod to hold the post upright on mobile modules. Toothpicks work too, though the hole may need to be slightly larger. A base plate from styrene or a similar material would work, too.
