Rochester Castle is one of the best preserved castles in England.

The castle is located on the banks of the River Medway. There has been a castle on that site since past 1066. However, the current castle was built around the 1086 to 1089 mark. In 1127 the castle was given over to the Archbishops by King Henry the 1st. The castle subsequently changed hands many times until in 1216 when it came directly into royal control.
