With this two element you can create a variety of boards - chess, go, ....just print out the elements in the color and quantity of your choice.

The downside is of course that you need at least 64 pieces for, let's say a chess board.

Once you printed them, you put them together as you like and afterwards add the little squares by initially putting them together by an angle of 45° and once in the hole turn them back by 45°.
No glue needed.
