This design was inspired by the devices that hold pizza trays significantly above the table to leave more room on the table. The design is fairly strong, and can easily hold a pot of water without trouble. My only caution is that it is somewhat vulnerable to twisting at the top, so be slightly careful when moving around the object on top. I've used it to hold up pots, pans, cutting boards, a crate of peaches, and more. Just make sure to have an insulator in between a hot pan or pot and this.
