Undercarriage plates for foamboard planes

I build a lot (because I crash a lot) of RC planes, many of which are designed by Flite Test or members of the Flite Test community. The suggested way of making a simple undercarriage does not stand up well to heavy landings as the force is concentrated on too small an area of foamboard. So the wings break or the undercarriage pulls out or pushes in - it's just not strong enough for my style of landing.
