to have a cap for this vase (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1844439) i designed a snap-on cap. the inner diameter differs from 29mm (bottom) to 27mm (top). so at some point it will bond to the vase and the water should be secured inside. the hole for the flowers is 8mm wide, so there should be enough space for your valentines rose ;-)
