I'd like to start off by saying this is not an original idea but rather an improvement on several designs that I saw. Mainly it was the lack of bearings in these designs that motivated me. I also preferred to orient the spool vertically and wanted to remove the excess weight from the top of my printer where it was previously mounted to minimize vibrations.
