Chess set with checkers like pieces

I designed this chess set for the McFarland Youth Center (McFarland, WI, USA) where I volunteer to build a chess club.

The board is 20x20 (inch) Russian Baltic Birch which I found at a local building store.

The chess board was drawn on the board and then burned into it (pyrography) after which an acrylic wash (diluted artist pigment) was used to color the 'black' (green) squares while letting the grain show through. The MYC logo was also burned into the board's corners but then painted in
