This Horizontal Thread Holder is used to convert from a vertical holder to Horizontal to reduce the tension. Some spools are designed to be used in this fashion, specifically for delicate sewing. Using the spool in the vertical direction adds tension every time the machine pulls on the thread causing some delicate fabrics to buckle/pucker.

This converter works for spool less than 30mm think.
