I was looking for a filament spool that didn't use a lot of filament, and was somewhat modular.
In Canada, which is the red-headed-stepchild of the USA, metric hardware is hard to find. I already had a bunch of 3/8 ID 7/8 OD bearings and 3/8" threaded rod. These bearings and rods are very close to 608 bearings and 8mm rod. In fact to make this I just enlarged a 608 spool 104%. You could probably print it as is, and glue in 608 bearings, or try printing at 97% scale or so.
