This little thingy here is an X axis endstop for the Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus and its clones when using a glass bed and glass retainer clips . It allows an extra 8.5mm clearance which for me was enough to clear the clips. Its also worth noting that the Plus version's (Not sure about the regular i3?) Y Axis endstop can be adjusted slightly without mods and this was also enough to get a perfect new squared home position.
