My printed gears kept stripping out so I wanted to replace them with steel gears.
There is a set on amazon that roughly matches the dimensions used in the original -- "Hot Racing STE258 Steel Pinion and Spur Gear Set (18T/58T 32P)(Blue) - Traxxas"

Best $26 I've spent on this project so far.
The new axle is also symmetrically balanced so the rear end doesn't vibrate so aggressively at high speeds. Works with stock wheels and bearings.
