It has become a tradition in our family to design, produce and paint wooden eggs in the time before Easter. Eggs are typically designed by my wife, the production part is mine and the painting is for everyone. Works nicely even on rainy days. Enjoy!
The procedure for designing the eggs is simple: We usually draw them on paper before I take a photo (smartphone camera sufficient). Afterwards I clean up the drawing in Gimp (remove speckles and connect edges) before I autotrace in Inkscape for conversion into a vector graphic. Cleaning up the vector graphic is a bit tedious, but not overly complicated. Most important is that all edges are connected to yield closed shapes.
In recent years, I used a laser cutter to produce the eggs from thin plywood or MDF boards. This year I have used my new CNC router. Since creating the tool paths is not trivial for beginners, I have included a FreeCAD file, which can be used to create the paths. Depths and steps are adjusted to 4 mm plywood and a 1 mm
