This is a well-known optical illusion. It makes a great entry-level project to learn about sketching, revolving (rotating), and patterns. The whole object is within a 50-mm cube and does hold **water**. I put three ridges around the vase just for fun: It looks as if three faces are kissing the vase ^_^.
