This 'thing' is a mounting bracket to allow a 34mm LDC (Large Diameter Condenser) microphone capsule to be fitted into a BM800 body, and permit 'end address', rather than the more usual 'side address' mode...
This variation allows the microphone to be more conveniently located when used as a voiceover, gaming or blog microphone, for example.
