If screen is placed over suction port so no small fishes are harmed it should be allowed like snipes or handpumps but dont quote me on that because I am still unsure. it has no moving parts for a pump so it should be safer than even handpump.

This cone has a 1" suction line on it and then it goes to a 3" line iirc to a sluce downstream could be a floating tube that collects dirt.

Would immagine its better to use sluce in fast moving water
