Kwikset Door Knob/Handle Extension

I have an interior door into an attic space at my house and wanted to add 2 inch rigid foam insulation to the outside to create a better thermal break. The problem was that if i put the foam over the door handle it would be burred in insulation and if i put it on the outside of the foam the door was then too thick.
