For bicycle wheel covers, allows the user to snap the wheel covers on the wheel with out using ugly wire ties or thru bolts. I wanted to make a fake carbon fiber looking wheel set. Also you get the aerodynamic benefits as well without spending $2000 on a carbon wheel.
