隨著臺灣各地炸寒單活動消失於日治時期，與元宵廟會活動共生的臺東炮炸寒單爺，是臺灣光復之後僅存的炮炸寒單爺活動，屬於臺東人的共同記憶，具有文化發展上的特殊性。以肉身寒單爺接受炮轟的儀式展演，火光四射場面深具魅力而撼動人心，在當代宗教活動中展現出其獨特的慶典美學，是呈現臺東地方特色的重要文化資產。
