The trials of the “minor power” Bolt Action player are many, but that doesn’t deter the intrepid few who make great efforts to represent the multiple “Non-Big Five” armies on the game table. One such army is the Netherlands. The Dutch are too often considered as an afterthought because of the brief five-day campaign before their defeat by the Wehrmacht in May 1940. The short duration of the fight ignores the immense deficit the Dutch were fighting from. The Dutch had no illusions as to the risk they faced, and despite having a military that had been starved for funds for decades, they mobilized in September 1939 and employed all the weaponry available. One such piece was the 6 Veld field gun. This artillery piece dated from another era, in fact to another century in fact. Dating from 1894, the 6 Veld was a 57mm infantry support gun, without any recoil system and fired over iron irons atop the barrel.
