He carries the orb the way a lesser thing might carry a weapon, and that is the first mistake the living make about him. They watch the staff. They watch the blade. They do not understand that the sphere held in that skeletal hand is the instrument that matters - a closed system of stored calculation, every variable of the engagement already resolved before the first of them has decided to be afraid.
