Adjustable Pencil

Pencils are one of the most popular yet underrated inventions of all time. Everyone uses pencils throughout their days, whether it be to do homework, sketch a design, draw a picture, write a grocery list, the possibilities are endless. As a high school student myself, I find myself running out of lead in my pencils very often, and none of my classmates could lend me theirs since I had a .5 mm lead pencil, but everyone only had .7 mm lead. Different sized lead can be very helpful situationally: thinner leads for precision, and thicker leads for more defined strokes. Therefore, I designed an adjustable pencil which allows multiple types of lead to be used. This eliminates the need for people to carry around different pencils to accomplish different tasks, and allows a person to use different leads in one pencil. This innovation was created by modifying a drill chuck mechanism, which allows for various sized drill bits. It has 3 jaws that are spun by grooves in the pencil cap and moves down the tapered worm gear to slowly close the gap between the jaws to the exact size of the lead. This will revolutionize the market of writing utensils because its design allows for a plethora of lead already in stores to be used in harmony without hassle.
