This is an external power supply modification for the Aeotec AEOEZWA005 TriSensor Z-wave sensor, the case design is common across other Aeotec products so will work for similar designs.
The modification is non damaging, so if you want to return the sensor to battery operation, you can in seconds. There is a captive nut insert on the back so you can use the manufacturer's included adjustable mount with the modification.
The sensor usually has a battery supply which limits how frequently you can send data back to your Z-wave hub, by default the sensor updates every 30 minutes, but you can set it as fast as every second, but this will drain your (expensive) battery very fast. By making this modification you can run the sensor off an external/USB power supply so you can configure fast updates without worrying about power usage.
The modification makes use of an off the shelf Buck (voltage reduction) convertor that is available from Amazon, these are very easy to use, with clearly m
