Significant other drives a Mini Cooper R56 and we had no reliable way to mount the Amazon Echo Auto device to her car. Also mounted near the air vent gave less then optimal mic/speaker results on calls.
We decided to create this flat mount (with internal magnets to snap to the Echo - as it does with the official mount). The flat mount it adhered to the upper steering wheel shaft just below the dash gauges - we used 3M commander adhesive strips.
When printing - remember to use supports for the magnet holes, and when placing the magnets into the holes place a tiny bit of epoxy to keep the magnet solid in place.
Magnets are 13mm Neodymium style (I believe they were 2-3mm thick) and requires 4 placed in the following way:
(N) (S)
(S) (N)
This makes sure the device only mounts in one direction. The magnets were purchased in a small Japanese Dollar store locally for a couple dollars (picture included for reference).
