This model represents a medical ventilator to be used in resuscitation procedure for patients suffering from respiratory problems such as COVID-19. The design consists of three main parts: an ambu bag, the main actuator, and the valve group. The main features of this design are: - Simplicity: small number of components which are largely available off the shelf or 3D printable (even with low spec printers). - Versatility: it can be used as a complete unit, or reconfigured into a simpler version by detaching the valve group. - Source options: it connects to the main power supply via a laptop charger (so it can be used in any country) or be powered by the on-board battery (i.e. 12v power bank). - Power efficiency: the low power setup, reduces the risk of electric shock and extends run time when used in battery mode. - Portability: the battery-powered option plus the inclination independence, enables flexible positioning and guarantees operation during relocation. - Error proof assembly: the design has been equipped with one way guides and symmetrical features which reduce the risk of incorrect assembly. - Ease of cleaning and disposability: the valve group can be detached and sterilised in an suitable autoclave. The bag is disposable, and the main actuator can be cleaned using any alcohol wipes. - Multiple operational modes: the device can operate in two modes. The automatic mode (in which the valve group is required) and manual mode (that can operate in absence of the valve group). - Lightweight: the design allows low in-fill printing which saves time and material, and reduces the cost. It is worth noting that all the control and electronics parts in the design are advisory and can be replaced in accordance with manufacturers' preference.
