I made this spool holder for my geeetech prusa i3. It is capable to hold two spools (depending on length of the threaded rod).
I had some 20x20mm aluminum profiles left, which I cut down to a length of 245mm each. Any cheap profile from a hardware store will do. The holes for the 20x20 profiles in the printed parts are oversized (i guess I used 21 x 21). If its too loose for you, you could perhaps use some glue. I just stuck the profiles in and it works totally fine without any glue.
I used an M8 threaded rod with Z809 (608) ball bearings in combination with the cone shaped holder to be able to use different spool sizes.
I really dig this construction. Frictionless feeding! The filament spool even moves backwards at retractions! :)
I also design a filament guide (see picture). It has a 5,6mm gap to be stuck on the acrylic frame. I used some paper beneath to make it sit firm.
Hope you like the design!
