This is a test setup for anti aliasing tuning. It is made up of slightly convex surfaces each facing towards the points around a sphere where anti aliasing struggles to get good details. The second model is deliberately rotated to the positions around a sphere that produce the best anti aliasing results. This angle is the in between angle of any 45 degree position being 22.5 degrees.
Using this setup objects can be deliberately positioned on compounds angles that force the computer to use anti aliasing to calculate the best surface. Which happens to produce very good surface finishes on models like trains, tanks, boxes, cubes and many engineering type objects.
