This is a Direct Drive Extruder mod for the AnyCubic Mega X.
I designed a backplate that can be mounted in place, and use all of the back details (fan, shroud, PCB carrier, etc. from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4555831
Once the back plate is on, the extruder itself can be removed for maintenance, etc, with only 3 front-accessible screws.
Print from PETG (or better). Backplate can be printed flat, no supports, the carriage will need supports.
I'm using a BondTech BMG clone, and currently a Pico Hybrid hot end, but it should work with any groove-mount hot end E3d V5 or V6 size (just with changing the z height using the screws on the side).
I added a PCB holder that can screw on to the top of the metal x-carriage so that all of the wires are more accessible, and if you're using a hot end with a fan that attaches to the hot end, you no longer need the old backpage and fan duct
