The reader is designed with the main focus on being robust and vandal proof yet functional and modern looking. The reader is compact but might even be able to be made thinner as there is more than enough space inside for the antenna and mag stripe read head. The keys have a LED backlight made with colour changing LED's which can allow the entire keypad to light up with blue,red or green depending on what is needed. This makes visual feedback more intense. All the keys have braille overlay as well. The design also includes a speaker for sound feedback. The entire body, upper and lower, and also the mounting plate can be either injection molded or 3D printed. The design was made so that the exposed part of the reader has as little as possible on it. Making sure it is robust and vandal proof. The body itself is held together and also locked in place with two M12 threaded tubular locks. The length of these locks will depend on the final thickness consideration. Using tubular locks means that the reader is fastened securely to the mounting plate and also no visible screws to allow anybody to tamper with the reader. Even tamper proof screws have their limitations. A tubular lock offers more security. If needed the design allows more space for screws to fix the two body holes together. Considerations might be given into strengthening the Reader body or maybe also the mounting plate with metal threaded inserts for the locks and bolts to screw into. However with advances in high strength plastics this might not even be necessary. It all depends on which plastic will be used. The locks slot into plates fastened to the mount plate and the mount plate itself can either be fixed to a gang box mounted in the wall or to the wall itself. The Mount plate is large enough for it to be customized to change hole layouts to fit standard gang boxes or to decide on any hole pattern needed.
