I'm still investigating suitable audio modules and speakers, but have a phatDAC currently installed in my test unit.
The buttons may take some finishing to for fit & comfort. I glued the button faces to the tact buttons, installed them in the case, then glued the button backing pieces to the buttons, and then soldered the wires to the buttons. The legs of all the buttons except the start & select buttons have been splayed flat. The start & select button legs are folded under, wires soldered in place, and the buttons glued in place. A future version will likely add alignment tabs to the backing plates to make assembly easier.
I used the simple gaming cape as a starting point for the design, and most of the GPIO usage is the same, with the addition of two buttons and an I2S dac.
