Beam Engine

This miniature beam engine features well-balanced proportions and resembles the original full-sized engines. While simplified for ease of construction, some components are quite small and may require careful handling. In the model shown, the base and bearing are made of steel, while the column, flywheel, and beam are crafted from aluminum. Replacing the aluminum flywheel with one made of cast iron would improve the engine's performance due to the added rotational inertia. However, the column and beam can be fabricated from any suitable material based on availability. The crankshaft and pin are also steel, providing strength and durability. All remaining components are made of brass or bronze. Depending on preference or material availability, the eccentric may be constructed from either steel or bronze.
