Seems like we are constantly trying to outsmart our bees...

Basically a bee escape is a simple device that works like a valve, i.e. bees can go one way but are unlikely to find their way back. Very helpful for harvesting honey (or for clearing a super you want to remove).

Drill a 50-60 mm hole in your escape board/clearer board (in essence a frame with a floor board and a hole in the center) and attach the escape below (either with 4 screws through the holes provided or a few drops of glue). Put this in your beehive between the super you want to harvest honey from and the super below. Approx. 24 hrs later most of the bees should be in the lower super making harvesting much easier.

Caveat: make sure that your queen is not in the upper super before inserting an escape board!

Hope your bees like it. Here is a collection of some of my Beekeeping Designs on Thingiverse.
