This is a design for the Blackboard Reader Device Challenge. The idea was to have simple plastic design with a familiar modern look. Device Description: The overall premise was to attempt to create simple plastic parts that could be pulled from just 2 directions with little to no use of cam actions in manufacturing. With most walls drafted at 2 degrees for this purpose. The main case is comprised of 4 parts, Top, Bottom, Magstrip Reader Insert, and Battery Door Cover. The PCB would get mounted to the Bottom, in addition to the Magstrip Reader Insert via screws (#2). The Top then would snap on one side and be secured by screws on the other. There is internal ribbing to the components to allow for a sleeker design, while maintaining strength. There are five indicator lights at the top. The top three are for Payment Accepted (Green) or Declined/Not Processed (Red) and one for the Blue tooth connection (Blue). The two lower LEDs are for indicating that the power is on, low or in sleep mode (1 Red, 1 Green). The device is meant to be held in the hand. Another idea that was not implemented was a had strap so that user could hold the device without grasping onto it. The design intent of the device is meant to be interchangeable between left and right hand users. The stand would horizontally mount the device and plug into the micro-usb port on the side. Due to time, this was not modeled. Other design features would be to use a slimmer battery and potentially smaller magnetic strip reader head. A suggested battery alternative would be the Samsung ICP463446 920mAh battery ( http://www.samsungsdi.com/lithium-ion-battery/mobile-phone ) and is a smaller package than the Varta easypack.
