This lamp is a scale model of my brain I modified from an MRI.
It is designed to fit the Ikea Tradfri 450lm LED bulb, but will fit most lightbulbs with an E12 thread. I chose this bulb because the smaller E12 socket allowed the base to stay thin, while still offering RGB and wireless connectivity.
For parts, I disassembled an Ikea Svallet work lamp and harvested the cable and socket. I found this to be cheaper than purchasing individual components.
The E12 socket is a standard size and is available in many places, including other Ikea products you may have lying around, waiting to be repurposed.
The brain itself is printed in 3 parts. 2 hemispheres are glued together with pins between them.
###Assembly Steps:
1. Printing (not pictured)
a. Print the parts
i. Left Hemisphere
ii. Right Hemisphere
iii. Base
iv. Pins x2 (as solid/thick walled as possible)
b. Remove supports and cleanup print
2. Brain Assembly (not pictured)
a. Glue hemispheres and pins together
3. Bas
