This project is designed to help students understand the following:
What is a life cycle?
What are the stages of an animal’s life cycle? How many stages does it have?
What is metamorphosis? Do all animals undergo metamorphosis? Does the animal I am studying undergo metamorphosis?
In small groups, students will be asked to design a specific animal’s life cycle. This life cycle will be printed on a 3D printer, including labels for each stage. Through this process, students will demonstrate their understanding of an animal’s life cycle. Individually, they will describe the stages of their life cycle in words to support their physical printout of the life cycle and publish this using a digital format.
The above is an example of a butterfly life cycle created by students. Their hand drawn illustrations were transformed into stl. files by using http://picsvg.com, altered using Tinkercad and printed using a MakerBot printer. The name plates and arrows came from MrKindergarten https
