cabinet latch - magnetic

So the dog can open the cabinet in the kitchen where the trash is kept and she likes to pick through it thoroughly (picture the dog in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation). Nobody in our house likes using kid proofing mechanisms that are a hassle to operate. So my first thought is neodimium magnets, hopefully strong enough to thwart the dog, but simplicity itself for a human to operate. I found some magnets and set the hole size on the front of the holder to fit them, added an extra 1 or 2 inside for holding strength, and screwed a small but thick metal plate (AKA a washer) to the door and voila, the trash is safe from the K-9.
