Cartesian Diving Bell Toy

Cartesian Diver Toy
This is a simple Cartesian Diving Bell toy consisting of three parts;
- A cylindrical body with flood holes for the base
- A cap with vent hole
- A flexible bulb
The first two parts are printed and the third part is made from a 3ml pipette readily available from a drugstore or online (I bought 100 pieces from Amazon.de for a few Euros). That’s enough to make an awful lot of Cartesian Divers.
Print the two parts and then insert the pipette bulb into the body as far as it will go. Using a sharp knife, cut the stem flush with the base of the body.
Remove the bulb, press the opening over the stub in the cap and glue in place.
When the glue is dry, push the glued assembly back into the body and glue the cap and body together. Make sure the glue is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.
To calibrate the diver buoyancy, submerge it completely in a bowl of water with the cap facing up. Shake it around to make sure the base cavity is completely flooded.
