I wanted a clean way of storing line and adjusting depth on my catfish jugs, this is my solution. I made these in two pieces to allow for easy printing and to allow them to be spaced apart for adding longer lengths of line. These fit very snugly on a piece of 3/4" PVC pipe and do not require glue. They have 2 different sized notches for #18 and #30 braided/twisted nylon twine and hold 20' of #30 braided twine when set together.
To make a complete unit you will need:
2 Printed spool half's.
1 20" piece of thin wall PVC pipe
2 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC end caps
1 3/4" x 3" Steel round bar stock (for internal slide weight)
1 10" piece of pool noodle that fits snugly on the 3/4" PVC pipe
PVC glue to attach the end caps
and your choice of either #18 or #30 twine
When setting these, unspool the amount of line needed, lock the line in the appropriate notch and slide the weight to the opposite end of the spool and place in the water. They will lay flat in the water until a fish hits
