I am an undergraduate engineering researcher who was tasked with finding applications for 3D printers. Because of my interest in chemical and mechanical engineering, I decided to look where the two disciplines converge---pumps. This design is an updated version of a previous design.
The main problem with my previous design was leaking. So this design accommodate for that with no adhesives or sealants.
The design works best with 12 mm diameter, flexible tubing for the inlet and outlet.
I used zip ties to hold the assembly together.
For testing I used a 12 V DC hobby motor with a 5 mm drive shaft. I'll be sure to include the motor housing stl however I highly recommend designing a custom motor housing specific for whatever motor you want to use.
With my set up, I was able to push water up >110 cm.
Seal the pump at the motor shaft insert with Vaseline or petroleum jell to minimize leakage.
