Currently version 0 (minus the centurion bit). The design is a 3D printable sextant. The key interesting feature is a planetary gearset that reads out tenths and hundredths of a degree (needs work). Currently, the major and minor indentations show 10 degrees and 1 degree increments, with the 0 degree and 90 degree angles marked. The different views show renderings of the optics working at 0, 30, 60 and 90 degree elevations from horizontal using a calibration tool. In practice, there would be a horizon that the view-through aligns to, and the mirrors and slider allow for adjusting to measure the inclination of the celestial body. The mirror setup allows for 90 degrees of elevation measurement in a 45 degree swing. The tool was used in navigation for ships (along with an accurate clock) to measure the ship's location when no landmarks are visible.
