I have a bunch of USB cables on my desk at work for various projects that plug into a 7-port USB hub. I'm in a cubicle and run the extra lengths of cable behind the desk and back up to the devices. I find is difficult to identify which cable is plugged in where at the hub, so to solve this I made an oscilloscope probe style identifier. These are designed for 4mm cables as is, but can be customized to fit any cable. I have not tried this out yet, so the dimensions may need some tweaking.
Just customize and print two of the same color at 100% fill. Probably best to use ABS, but I'm sure PLA would work just fine as well. Snap these on a cable just behind the strain relief of each connector. Print pairs in different colors to allow for easy identification.
