This is a quick draft of an idea that I have been kicking around in my head. Since Makerbot is having a design contest, I thought two birds with one stone.
This scanner allows the user to place a coin on a scanning plate and let the machine center, image obverse and reverse and then scan the edge. Edge scans are key in collecting some coins and edge scanning is a pain to do manually. So here is the idea and prototype layout. Joints and axis are placed and should allow full range of intended motion.
The attached file is for a program called Carrara. I have used it in the past and it works for a rush prototype explanation job. I'll also upload the *.obj file.
