This is a recreation of an old stage effect used since at least the mid 1500's (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Column_wave). Made mostly as just a desk toy, like a conversation grinder. To see the effect look down the side.
The waves are placed in order by how many times they revolve and turned by a crank.
You will need some 8x M3 screws to mount the wave columns to the frame, as well as 6x Bearings (623 Z 3x10x4 mm 623Z Ball Bearings 623ZZ RepRap) to make sure they turn smoothly.
Special thanks to the Museum of Jurassic Technology (http://www.mjt.org/) where I first saw this in an exhibit. Also thanks to whoever made GearGenerator.Com which made adding gears possible.
