I recently picked up a Compaq LTE 286 laptop from a thrift store for $15 with the caveat being that it did not have either the battery or the AC adapter included. As this type of machine is quite old getting a replacement would be quite difficult so I decided to just see what I could make on my own. This is the result which I am surprisingly quite pleased with, it is a little rough but once it is assembled it feels solid as a brick. Assembly is kind of easy, after printing both the battery casing itself and the compartment cover you will also need a piece of double sided copper clad board and some contact material(think thin springy metal) for the negative and the internal contact. With the copper clad board cut to size it will slide into the provided slot without too much issue, at this point I chose to tin the copper on both sides but for the negative contact point I soldered a small piece of thin metal to the board to create the internal contact point for the negative contact.
