When you are frantically trying to get ready for school after waking up late on a weekday, the last thing you want to do is to spend 5 minutes forcing toothpaste out of a nearly empty tube. The majority of users consider the current toothpaste tube design to be highly ineffective. As a person squeezes a toothpaste tube, the air pressure inside the tube increases, causing the paste to flow out in order to relieve this pressure. However, even though many people start squeezing at the bottom of the tube and work their way upwards as recommended, it is difficult to exert the magnitude of force needed to remove all of the toothpaste from the container. This is especially true when the amount of toothpaste left in the container is extremely low because it would require a large force to create even a slight change in air pressure. The rolling toothpaste squeezer known as the “Cool Mint Compressor” (shown above) consists of two identical cylinders that are positioned so that there is just enough space between them to insert the thin end of a toothpaste tube. After inserting the tube, a knob connected to one of the cylinders can be turned, and the friction between the cylinder and the toothpaste tube will allow the tube to pass through the two cylinders, squeezing out every last bit of toothpaste. Furthermore, for ease of access, “Cool Mint Compressors” are built into toothbrushes. This makes the manufacturing process considerably less expensive than if the toothbrushes and toothpaste squeezers were to be manufactured separately.
