I wanted to install a motion sensor outside so that the light would turn on when we walk in the garden at night.
I had received this sensor from a friend, and it had an IP44 rating. That means it’s splash-proof and intended for covered outdoor areas, but not for locations directly exposed to rain or water jets. Of course, mine was mounted on the wall of the garden shed, in a spot that regularly got hit by rain showers.
So, I designed and 3D printed a small cover out of PETG (since PLA isn’t suitable for outdoor use in the sun) and mounted it over the sensor.
It’s been in place for several months now and has already endured quite a few rainstorms. It’s working exactly as hoped.
