I needed crab mallets to go with my Maryland State Flag Crab Mallet Holder and figured I'd save some money and make them myself from 1.5" & ½" wooden dowels. Then I found that I needed a jig to simplify drilling a perpendicular hole in the mallet head so I came up with this. You need a 1.5" wooden dowel and a ½" wooden dowel. Cut the 1.5" dowel down to 2.5" (or 2 & 7/16th") mallet heads and cut the ½" dowel down to 5.5" or 6" handles. Get yourself a 13mm diameter drill bit. Place the 2.5" long mallet head in the jig and drill a ½" or ¾" deep hole on top through the jig. Sand the rough edges and burrs off with 60 or 80 grit sand paper and glue the handle into the head.
