His name is Crates, pronounced Crate-Eez, like Socrates or Hippocrates. This was one of my old step dad's DND characters and he was a philosophy professor.
When I was about nine, I begged my old stepdad to teach me how to play D&D. His response was to help me build a level one fighter (that I named "Thor The Terrible") and then take that level one fighter through Castle Amber. Yeah. If you've played Castle Amber, you can imagine how gnarly that was. If you haven't, it's basically like throwing a toddler in the deep end of a pool and figuring it'll be a great way for them to learn how to swim. The only thing that kept Thor The Terrible alive was his wizard buddy Crates, the DM-run character who, as I remember it, seemed to have any unlimited number of fireball spell slots and the ability to cast healing spells and an unlimited number of resurrection spells.
Sadly, my old stepdad passed away in 2015 at the young age of 45. He and I lost contact after he and my mother divorced in 1
