The Wailing Saints were the firstborn from the Saint Humanity Program. An operation run by the Church to bridge the genetic divide between Angelic deities & Man. Although once believed to be a sin to attempt to create such a mockery of Gods creation, the Churches ideology changed on the matter when a Seraphim fell from Heaven during the siege of Emmaus. The fallen deity blessed the church with instructions from heaven & thus began the third era.
