Iemanjá

She is the orixá of the ocean in the traditions of Umbanda and Candomblé. She represents motherhood, protection, fertility, family, and emotional strength. A lot of people reduce her to just the “queen of the sea,” but in Yoruba theology she’s much deeper and more complex than that.

Her real origin

Iemanjá comes from the spiritual tradition of the Yoruba people of West Africa. Her name comes from Yèyé omo ejá, which means “mother whose children are fish.”
